| Mission
ARCHE - Center of Applied Research in Communication and Health is a department of the ICH. Empirical methods of the social sciences (especially content analysis, surveys and experiments) are used to answer concrete questions mostly asked by external clients, such as institutions, associations, partners in medical healthcare, etc.
ARCHE combines the know-how of experienced researchers in communication sciences and psychology from different parts of Switzerland, Germany and Italy. Recent, current and forthcoming research deals, among the rest, with:
- aspects of and factors influencing health literacy of individuals,
- strategies against obesity among the Swiss population,
- media coverage and public acceptance of the smoking ban in Ticino,
- communication between doctors and patients.
The ARCHE offers individually tailored full service studies including development of research instruments, data collection, analysis, presentation and interpretation, but also serves as a consultant to answer specific questions concerning health communication problems. In all cases the ARCHE group is continuously improving instruments and research strategies to optimize the benefit for risk and health communication of individuals, institutions and other public actors in Switzerland, particularly in Ticino.
